We aim to ensure that all children attend school regularly and on time to enable them to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available.

Regular, punctual attendance is valued and positively encouraged for all of our pupils.

Attending school regularly and on time has a positive impact on learning, progress and therefore the best life chances for pupils. Research shows that attendance and punctuality are important factors in school success. At Arley Primary School we expect all children to achieve attendance that is at least 96%

Why is regular school attendance important?

We closely with children and parents in connection with attendance so that each child can achieve their full potential. By law, all children of compulsory school age (five to sixteen) must receive a suitable full-time education. Once your child is registered at school, you are legally responsible for making sure that they attend regularly.

Arley Primary monitors the attendance of every child in the school and works in partnership with Warwickshire Attendance Services. Parents of pupils whose attendance is below target will be contacted and may be asked to attend a meeting to discuss ways in which we can improve the attendance. Together we work and support those children and their families who are not attending school without sufficient reason.

​Absence procedures

It is very important that you contact school, on the first day of absence, to let us know that you child is ill.

​Leave of Absence

As detailed in our Attendance Policy, and in line with DfE guidance, we do not authorise leave of absence during term other than when exceptional circumstances permit. If you wish to take your child out of school, during term time, it is important to discuss this with us as much in advance as possible so we can guide you through the process.

​However, where absence is unauthorised, it could lead to further action being taken including a penalty notice being issued.

Studybugs

Attendance is one of the priorities we want to improve at Arley, we know from research how time missed
from school can impact the learning outcomes and at Arley we want to help the children to achieve their
potential in all areas. So with your help we are asking you all to download the Studybugs app, any absence MUST be reported through this app. You can download the app from the apple store or google play. The app is easy to use and will also offer guidance from the NHS as to whether the illness you report requires your child to be off school. The app will also automatically message you if we have not received notification of your child’s illness at
school by 10am.

We look forward to your co-operation in using this new method of communication for reporting your child’s absence. We also want to reassure you that all the data shared on the app will be kept secure and confidential between the app and the school.
